Pictures at an Exhibition - @wbull
In a recent New Yorker article on the history of the Louvre, Adam Gopnick writes about “the sex appeal of museumgoing, the carnal intersection of one physical object with another, you and it...It’s a thing, there; you, a thing, here.”For the past few years, I’ve been photographing in museums to try to capture the pleasure and mystery of that encounter between “you and it,” the way that the work of art enlivens the museumgoer but, more strangely, the way that the museumgoer also animates the work of art, provokes it to ask questions, to talk across the chasm of time and matter, of there and here.
