'Self Aware' Is a series of reflected street self portraits exploring visually a woman's place in the world, and the footprint we leave a women street photographers. Throughout History women photographers have explored self portraiture, Bernice Abbott, Dorothea Lange, Cindy Sherman, and my favorite street photographer Vivian Maier explored the reflective surfaces of the urban environment through self portraiture. The reflective world has become my playground and inspiration for visual storytelling, and self portraiture has been a study I have extensively explored for 15 years. I find the archeology of layers create a dynamic depth of field I call the fourth dimension, where the refracted and reflected light become the narrative and dialogue for my visual translations. These self portraits are all single images, they are not multilayered through photoshop. All of these images were created by me through the lens of my camera in the moment of reflection. I leave my footprint as a contribution to the women photographers of the past as a contemporary reflection of our place in the world today.
