I avoid taking pictures of the deprived class while shooting the street. It is equivalent to exploitation and I abhor it. I took this photo of a mother and her 2 children outside a public hospital in my neighbourhood in Mumbai. While there is some apparent despair, I largely sensed hope and determination shining through their faces and the colourful, wild background was complementary rather than intimidating.
