Tajik Boy Painting a Fence - @benvenphoto
In July 2024, I hitchhiked across Tajikistan, from the western border with Uzbekistan to the northern border with Kyrgyzstan. My goal was to traverse the mighty Pamir Highway; topping out at 4,655m above sea level, it is the second highest highway in the world behind the Karakoram in northern Pakistan. My first point of entry into the country was the city of Penjakent, near Uzbekistan. On my first evening there, I was walking around the town late in the afternoon when I spotted this young boy with piercing hazel eyes painting a fence electric green alongside his father. I asked if it was alright if I took the boy's portrait, and the father kindly obliged. Penjakent, Tajikistan, July 2024.
