In Finland, protests are by far peaceful marches, closely controlled by the police, performed during daytime, leaving nights peaceful. To my shock, in Nantes, I saw the city ablaze and rioters violently clashing with the police. Locals calling them mere "strikes" and people going as usual in coffee shops, while around the corner the streets resembled a warzone, told me it wasn't the first time. This photo captures the citizens' common reaction to the events - observing, having accepted it as a common occurence.
While my friends confined to the safety of their homes, blended in with the protesters to capture these moments as an unbiased observer to show back at home. It was my first time at a protest, let alone photographing a riot. Alongside with hundreds of rioters lacking proper safety gear, I risked my safety in the heart of the action for the sakes of journalism, and have dents to remind me of it.
This photo only illustrates one part of a complex story. "Acceptance" provokes the viewer to think how people grow accustomed to radical events over time, after their initial shock, like I did.
