Jury's Special Nominee
Passenger is a fine art street photography photographic project that captures the intimate, transient moments of everyday life aboard Sydney’s iconic ferry network. This project seeks to explore the quiet poetry of public transport—spaces that are often overlooked yet deeply human. Through a series of carefully composed candid shots, the work delves into the diverse lives, emotions, and narratives carried across Sydney Harbour each day.
Set against the shifting light, sea spray, and skyline of the city, the ferry becomes both a literal and metaphorical vessel: a place of passage, contemplation, transition, and community. From early morning commuters and day-tripping tourists to retirees and students, the photographs highlight the contrast between solitude and togetherness in public space.
The series combines aesthetic sensitivity with documentary intent, using natural light, spatial composition, and ambient texture to evoke the interior worlds of its subjects. Each image invites viewers to consider the richness of lives briefly intersecting in this floating microcosm.
This project ultimately celebrates the ferry not just as transportation, but as a stage for human connection, introspection, and shared experience—a moving gallery of untold stories that reflect the cultural mosaic of contemporary Sydney.
