"Horsemen of Memories" is an imagined homage to Vienna’s iconic carriage drivers, the Fiaker, reinterpreted through the visual language of contemporary abstract street photography. Inspired by the signature “Urban Ghosts” style of street photographer Stefan Czurda, the series transforms the bustling streets of Vienna’s inner city into a stage where figures dissolve into motion and light. Through intentional abstraction and dynamic blur, the photographs evoke the mythic aura that surrounds the Fiaker—beings suspended between past and present, memory and movement. Rather than depicting carriages directly, the work captures their lingering spirit, echoing the stories they are said to carry with them. The result is a visual journey that merges history with imagination, inviting viewers to experience Vienna not as it appears, but as it is remembered.

Through the narrow streets of Vienna,
a faint echo drifts across the cobblestones,
a quiet rhythm of hooves that vanishes
into the mist before it can be grasped.
Each carriage is a vessel through time,
laden with voices of long-forgotten eras.

The silhouettes of the coachmen dissolve
into the glow of their lanterns, half human, half shadow,
as if the city itself were breathing them into being.
Their faces are unseen, their gestures timeless,
they seem less like men and more like fragments
of Vienna’s own memory — silent custodians of its nocturnal pulse.

The horses emerge like drifting spectres,
their forms fractured by motion and light
bodies woven from mist and memory.
In their eyes flickers something ancient, untamed
a quiet knowing of streets that
have dreamed them a thousand times before.

Thus, the horsemen become more than mere carriage drivers —
they become symbols of transience, moving fragments of the city’s soul
suspended between light and shadow.
In abstraction, when lines blur and figures fade,
the true Vienna appears: memory, mystery, and eternal return.
For the horsemen, they say, carry more than passengers — they carry memories.
